Podium Extension for Autodesk Forma

Overview

Podium’s extension for Autodesk Forma allows workflows between both products.
The current focus is to allow users to perform their building automations in Podium, and be able to publish/synchronize the automated buildings into Forma Site Design to perform Simulations (eg, Sun, Wind) or use them in Forma Boards for ideation.

Pre-requisites

  • Existing Podium account
  • Existing Forma account

Install Extension

  1. Create the Project in Forma (currently Forma doesn’t support headless creation of Projects, so the Project Creation flow needs to start in Forma)
  1. Create a Proposal in Forma
    1. Note: For every new Proposal in Forma you’d perform a new Scenario Sync in Podium via the Extension. This will guarantee you can keep the mapping between Forma Proposal and Podium Scenario and that performed design comparisons within Forma and within Podium are aligned.
  1. Search for the Podium Extension via the “Find Extension by ID” of Autodesk App Store (id: f1d536c1-9278-4259-a140-b8b1a212f110)

  1. Once the Podium buildings show up in Forma you can now run your Simulations like with any other Forma building and use such Proposals with Podium buildings in your Forma Boards as well

Usage in Forma Boards

Another use case that this allows is for users to use their Podium Buildings for the Ideation in Forma Boards

Usage through Autodesk Docs

An alternative way of publishing information into your Forma Boards is via Autodesk Docs.
Podium allows users to export a GLB file with different levels of filtered data from Podium’s Data Model, which can then be consumed within Forma Boards

  1. Download GLB of the full Podium model or with applied filters

  1. Upload the GLB file into your Autodesk Docs

  1. Add it to your Boards and use it for your team ideation

Re-Sync Data

As buildings and other elements change within the Scenario in Podium, such changes are detected within the extension in Forma, allowing users to republish their re-automated Scenario elements into the Forma Proposal.
