Landscaping

Overview

Landscaping in Podium lets you define green spaces directly within your design. You can draw freeform landscaping areas to represent lawns, parks, or planted zones, and add landscaping lines to automatically generate rows of trees along any path you define. Both tools work on ground level and on podium surfaces, so you can model rooftop gardens, elevated planting decks, and terraces the same way you would ground-level greenery.

Landscaping Area

A landscaping area is a freeform polygon that represents a planted or green surface. You draw the boundary yourself, so the shape can be as simple or as complex as your design requires.

How to Draw a Landscaping Area

  1. Open the Landscaping tool from the middle toolbar.
  1. Select Landscaping Area.
  1. Click to place points around the perimeter of your landscaping zone. Each click sets a corner of the polygon.
  1. Close the shape by clicking back on your first point, or double-clicking or enter to finish.
  1. The filled area will appear representing your landscaping zone.

Landscaping Line

A landscaping line places a row of trees along a path you draw. Podium automatically distributes trees along the line based on the spacing you set. This is useful for tree-lined roads, perimeter planting, or any linear arrangement of trees.

How to Draw a Landscaping Line

  1. Open the Landscaping tool from the middle toolbar.
  1. Select Landscaping Line.
  1. Click to set the start point of the tree row.
  1. Continue clicking to add bends or direction changes along the path.
  1. Enter or Double-click to finish the line. Trees will appear along the path based on your spacing settings.

Tree Settings

You can configure two parameters for trees on a landscaping line:
Setting
What It Does
Tree Height
Sets how tall each tree appears in the model. Adjust this to reflect realistic species heights or to match surrounding building scale.
Distance Between Trees
Controls the spacing between each tree along the line. Shorter distances produce denser planting; longer distances give a more open, spaced-out arrangement.
