Unit Library & Creating Unit Templates in Podium
The Unit Library in Podium is where users can create, manage, and standardize unit layouts for reuse across multiple projects. It helps streamline residential planning by allowing teams to define commonly used unit types with consistent spatial logic and dimensions.
Creating a New Unit Template
- Access the Unit Library
Navigate to Unit Library under the Tools section in the sidebar. Here, you’ll find existing templates with layout previews, area information, and quick editing options.

- Design in the Unit Editor
- Add and arrange rooms
- Adjust room dimensions by dragging or inputting values
- Add corridors using the plus (+) icon under the Space section
- Toggle walls, flooring, and wireframes for better visual control
The template opens in the Unit Editor, a grid-based interface for space planning. Within the editor, users can:

- Define Unit Edges & Entrance
To complete the template, users must set the unit edges and unit entrance using the prompts in the left-hand panel. This step ensures that the unit boundary and access point are clearly defined.
- Configure Room Properties
- Rename or assign a space type
- Edit dimensions (width/depth)
- View the calculated area
Each room can be selected to:
- Save and Reuse Templates
- A layout thumbnail
- Area in m² or ft²
- Room summary
Once all required steps are complete, the unit template can be saved. It will appear in the Unit Library with:
Saved templates can be reused across different projects to accelerate design workflows and maintain planning consistency.
Validation Errors
Error messages will appear when users do not complete all the required steps or the unit is drawn incompletely.
- Overlapping spaces

Spaces are overlapping. Ensure that spaces are placed correctly without any overlapping boundary/lines
- Invalid/empty space type
_(3).png?table=block&id=279e3962-9b60-80d5-bf97-dc67647b9f2e&cache=v2)
There is no ‘space type’ assigned to the ‘Room’. Select a space type (e.g. bedroom/living room/kitchen etc.) from the criteria panel
- Isolated space
_(4).png?table=block&id=279e3962-9b60-80bf-ad4f-d97fb6952f3f&cache=v2)
The room is isolated and it needs to be connected to the other spaces.
- Missing unit variant(s)

To resolve the error, the template needs to be saved. In order to save the template, the unit edges (adjacent edge and corridor edge) and unit entrance must be set.
- Invalid entrance placement

The unit entrance is not on a corridor edge. Drag the unit entrance and place along the corridor edge.
